Cuil is based on search engineering techniques developed by Anna Patterson - who also wrote the software that was bought by Google as part of an upgrade to their systems in 2004.

Cuil boasts a search base of 121,617,892,992 web pages, whcih is pretty impressive; although there are mixed reviews on how well Cuil has started out. It is a missive move going into direct competition with an internet giant like Google - but thats what Cuil have done.

The look of the site is very nice - very sleek with black themed interface. They have gone for a unique results display - a 2 or 3 column layout to be precise. It is a bit confusing to look at at first, but its something one can get used to. Its possible that what the internet search sector needs is some fine-tuning of the current search ordering technologies technologies rather than a spruced up front-end, but only time will tell what becomes of Cuil.com.
